Uber has recently announced operations in Whitsundays.
Market disruption has proven to be good for consumers in most markets; think AirBnB, Aldi, Chemist Warehouse, medical centres, and online shopping. Uber will always disrupt new markets, and this will be true for their arrival into the Whitsundays.
Uber will provide a new option in the regional transport mix which is terrific for residents and visitors alike. Uber’s arrival also opens up potential new services for regional retail and hospitality businesses with Uber Eats and on-demand deliveries.
However, with the introduction of Uber comes competition and customer choice.
The Whitsundays Chamber of Commerce and Industry encourages the region’s existing taxi fleet and private transport providers to re-appraise their business model and their service delivery to ensure they remain competitive. While it might be easy to resist or ignore Uber’s arrival, if the demand for Uber is high and sustained then it will have an impact on current operators.
The Chamber welcomes competition as being good for customers. Transport operators in other markets have increased their success and improved their service deliver even against Uber’s competition. If done well, all taxi and private transport users will benefit from an improved service experience.
