- As of June 2022, there are nearly 4000 businesses operating in the region (source data from Whitsunday Regional Council)
- Chamber to lead work on articulating a business and industry vision for the Whitsundays
- Chamber special event open to all to be held 16 May 2023
The Whitsundays region is home to nearly 4000 small businesses that play a vital role in our local economy including providing employment for the community. During Queensland Small Business Month this May, we want to celebrate and support these businesses and encourage the community to get involved.
The Chamber recognises and values the vital contribution tourism and hospitality, mining, construction, and agriculture sectors make to our regional economy and sustaining our way of life. However, it is equally important to recognise the economic role and value of the significant number of professional services, trades, retailers, and other small and micro businesses driving success in the Whitsundays.
On Tuesday, May 16th, the Whitsunday Coast Chamber of Commerce is hosting a special event to discuss the future economic indicators for the region. We’ll hear from federal, state, and regional leaders:
- Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Julie Hall,
- Amanda Camm MP, Queensland Member for Whitsundays, and
- Andrew Willcox MP, Federal Member for Dawson
- The Hon David Littleproud MP, federal leader of the National Party
Our speakers will explore the current drivers of change and how they might influence our region in the next 25-40 years.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about the local economy and how you can support small businesses in the community.
The event will be held at 6pm at the Mantra Club Croc Airlie Beach and is open to all. Visit our website for more information about the event and to register.
We are grateful for the Queensland Government’s support for this event through a Networker Regional Grant, designed to help small businesses make connections and generate stronger networks.
We encourage everyone in the community to support local businesses during Small Business Month and beyond. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and provide jobs for many people in the Whitsundays.
You can help by leaving reviews, sharing on social media, or shopping locally or simply say thank you.
Let’s work together to build a stronger, more vibrant community.
