I’d like to start this week with a few congratulations.Firstly to Tourism Whitsundays and Whitsunday Regional Council on the new brand for the region – the Whitsundays, the Heart of the Great Barrier Reef.Launched two weeks ago, it is a genuinely innovative and adaptable brand and tagline that should resonate throughout everything we do. We should all get behind the new brand, which puts us at the heart of this amazing Natural Wonder and unique visitor attraction and has the potential to unite all parts of our wonderful region. The Chamber leads the way “The Heart of the Whitsunday Business Community”Congratulations to the Run the Great Whitsunday Trail organisers – another spectacular and unique event in our calendar bringing people and business to town and showcasing another aspect of the region.Congratulations also to all those wonderful businesses that have entered in the Whitsunday Tourism Awards. Having spent a weekend judging the submissions, I was astounded by the investment of time and effort by so many of our local businesses and the quality not only of their submission but of their businesses overall. We are blessed to have so many world class operators in our region, and the benefit that we get as a region when these guys win national awards is truly significant. We have had a great response to our Airlie Main Street survey, and are busy collating the results. This will form the basis on which the Chamber will create a strategy for actions moving forward to enhance the Main Street and overall town experience. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. In other news, the food supply chain in the Whitsundays is something that has long been talked about and now local food producers, restaurants, cafés, food distributors and chefs can get involved.
The Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning is delivering a ‘food dating’ event in the Whitsundays, on Monday, September 30, 2019, at Whitsunday Gold Coffee, Proserpine.
