As always, the Airlie Beach Running Festival on the weekend was a huge success and brought many to town for the day. It is events such as this that add character to the town and give people “another reason to visit”, even if they aren’t participating in the event itself. Our congratulations to all involved
And as the Events season gathers momentum, we have the Great Barrier Reef Festival and Airlie Beach Race Week coming up, in August, combining to create more interest in the region and another welcome boost for the local economy.
Judging by the great turnout at the Public Forum held last week by the chamber, local residents and business people are passionate about improving their town and enhancing the experience for visitors and locals alike.
Some great ideas and practical suggestions came out of the forum and we also covered off all the usual topics including car parking, traffic flow and pedestrian crossings, as well as marketing. It is all about simple things we can do to help ourselves.
A simple survey will now be sent out to members and stakeholders asking for feedback on which ideas they want to follow up, so we can prioritise projects.
Responses will feed into the Main Street Strategy the Chamber is drafting setting out initial ideas, aims and expectations and suggesting a way forward for enhancing the Main Street and the town’s appeal.
The Chamber’s AGM is due to be held on Thursday, August 22 (location TBA) so please submit your name, business name, email address and phone number to me before the end of July, if you’d like to stand for the committee – all positions are available (the current committee stands down and a new committee is re-elected).
Members have to be financial to vote at the AGM, so make sure you have paid your invoice before then (they were due by July 19).
