This month’s Pop Up Chamber will be hosted by Fresh Fields News & Gifts in Prosperine and the team from Hummingbird Refrigeration, Electrical and Air Conditioning will be on hand to answer all your questions as we head into air conditioner season. Plus, they have an amazing giveway and shouting coffees during the event, with thanks to Little Vintage Café!
Chamber spoke with Hummingbird to learn more about what businesses and households can do today to prepare for the coming months.
“Did you know we breathe in something like 7500 to 9000 litres of air daily? So dirty air conditioners can impact the quality of the air you are breathing,” said Mark Porter from Hummingbird.
“As we are now getting into our warmer months the demand on our air conditioners is increasing. We receive many calls from customers during the months of October through January to say their air conditioners are not running well, or not cooling as they should be.”
In some instances, this may be as simple as needing an air conditioner clean and full service or it may be a faulty part or gas leak that has gone undetected for a while. While all of these things can be sorted, the most economical and efficient solution is to maintain the air conditioner year-round.
Mark suggests the following top tips:
- Replace: Air conditioners have a useful life and will, at some point, need to be replaced. For efficiency sake, you should consider this if your air conditioner is getting toward 15 years old where you have carried out regular maintenance
- Maintain: Regular maintenance and cleaning improves the operation of the air conditioner (in many instances, when it doesn’t feel cool this simple act makes an enormous impact) making it run more efficiently and reducing costly energy bills. Regular maintenance helps with warranty claims too!
- Clean: Keep the outside of indoor air conditioning units clean by using one part vinegar and two parts water with a cloth. Clean your filters monthly or at least seasonally.
“Many manufacturers recommend replacing filters one year after standard use; and having a licensed professional carry out an annual air conditioner service,” said Mark.
